what's new in the shop...

After looking around for a while, I haven't found any alloy dunstall style seats, so I figured I'd try my hand at making one. I started out by sketching what I wanted, then building a wooden template, or buck, to keep things straight and clamp everything down while welding. Once I did that, I used construction paper to create my templates for cutting out the aluminum, a jigsaw or scrollsaw does a good job of that, and cleaning up the edges with a prep disk is easy. I used a dolly and slapper to fillet my edges and get everything lined up so I could tack things together. I finished up everything with a brass wheel for a nice brushed finish, but polishing wouldn't be hard either!!
